INNER CITY WAKANDA

The best way to predict the future is to invent it.
— Alan Kay, father of personal computers

Uplift, Inc. seeks to bring technological invention and workforce development that expands residents’ income levels, reducing poverty, crime and societal disparities.

We believe AUTOMATION WORKZ for everyone when residents are prepared for the new technological changes that are occurring. Our goal is inspire 50,000 residents to acquire learning and credentials to become inventors, technologists and mathematicians to build an inner city Wakanda anchored a community Invention Center to empower Research & Development, Learning and Commercialization of tech inventions. We seek to turn inner cities into tech meccas like Wakanda

Not familiar with Wakanda, the fictional city-state in the Marvel Black Panther movie that is the world’s most technologically advanced society? Click the video and view a snippet of inventions invented in Wakanda.

WHY?

High income jobs require specialization in the Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). NCES states Black women are the largest population attending post-secondary school yet, only 3.5% of Black women specialize in STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). It is time for the African Americans go boldy into STEM especially since McKinsey & Co highlights in Future of Work in Black America that Automation is set to wipe out 60% of these African American service jobs.

Cities are more resilient in the face of shocks – economic, such as the 2008 recession; pandemics, such as COVID19 - when residents move out of poverty.

Poverty is the common denominator in education, healthcare, housing, and transportation disparities inner city residents, mainly African Americans, face.

This disparity has been truly felt during the COVID-19 pandemic as African Americans only makeup 14% of the population,  but they comprise 30-40% of deaths in places like New York  City New Orleans and Detroit.

Inner city residents, mainly African Americans, are   the essential workers – grocery store, janitorial, and  food service – during COVID-19. These jobs are low-paying, manual, lacking economic stabilizers of healthcare and  sick days.  Sadly, community leaders desire to continually study disparity data when the solution is very simple --- HIGH INCOME JOBS.
